So this was taken BEFORE Emily fell off the back o So this was taken BEFORE Emily fell off the back of the horse-drawn sleigh.🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, this hour-long sleigh ride had beautiful scenery plus a stop for hot chocolate and roasting marshmallows over an open camp-fire. And the kids liked the horses and riding in “Santa’s sleigh”. And, yes, we took some fun Instagram/Picture worthy shots.

But looking back, I’ll mostly just remember Will saying “the cowboy has ONE job!…turn around and LOOK to make sure everyone is IN the sleigh before yelling giddy-up.” 🤠🐎 🛷
#goodpoint 🤷🏻‍♀️😬
P.S. Emily is fine btw. There was 20 feet of fresh powder down there. Probably like landing on a pillow. 😉 ❄️

P.SS – Check out our stories today for a little more insight into the excursion. #accidentshappen

I went into this with Extremely LOW Expectations. I went into this with Extremely LOW Expectations. I would have been happy if they had simply survived the 2-hour kid’s ski lesson.
Surely they’d be over it after that. But Emily and Jimmie have surprised me every day on this trip. Their positive attitudes and willingness to try new things makes me the proudest mom on this planet.
We were supposed to head home last night, but due to the winter storm in the south, our flights were canceled and vaca was extended a few more days. As you can see...the kids seem to be handling this ok. Hope our friends and fam are staying safe and warm in Arkansas 😘😘😘. Happy 38th birthday to you my love. Man, you’re Happy 38th birthday to you my love. Man, you’re getting old. Of course you’ll always be a young George Clooney in my eyes. Thank you for putting up with me for all these years (21 of those 38 to be exact 😬). I am one very lucky girl to be able to call you mine ❤️. Glad we are getting to celebrate this milestone up in the snowy mountains. #winterparkcolorado #birthdayboy
Great way to end a travel day ❄️ . We promised Great way to end a travel day ❄️ . We promised the kids we would take them to a snowy mountain and we decided on Winter Park. Hot Sulfur Springs spa is just 30 minutes north of Winter Park and we had some time to kill before checking into the #vrbo . It was snowing pretty heavy, but the natural hot springs were around 102 degrees. You can also see the train track just behind us and we lucked out to see one go by....so if you’ve got kids who love trains...they’ll be in heaven 💙 🚂 #winterparkcolorado #hotsulphursprings #lazylauren
I really struggle with consistency. Share blog pos I really struggle with consistency. Share blog posts weekly they say. Post daily on social media they say. Send emails, make reels, do more stories. Be consistent...they say. Whether its travel blogging, building a brand on social media, momming, fitness goals or work, I have found that my progress rarely looks like a straight line. I’ll sometimes take breaks when I know I really shouldn’t take a break. I’ll focus heavy in one area while completely ignoring another.
.
Consistency in all areas feels impossible. While trying to do everything, you end up stretching yourself too thin in areas of life that need presidency.
.
What does progress look like to you? For me, progress always looks more like a mountain range. Lots of valleys and lots of peaks. I guess the one thing I’m usually consistent with is getting back up on the horse in the area that I’ve ignored for a bit. 🤷🏻‍♀️
As my husband says...”March to the beat of your own drum. Who cares what ‘THEY SAY’ 🤷🏻‍♀️
When you hesitantly join Club Spectrum, they hand When you hesitantly join Club Spectrum, they hand over an “Autism Parent Resource Guide” that’s about 4 inches thick. Over the last several days, I’ve thumbed through it, still in disbelief that this guide even belongs in my hands. Yesterday I stumbled across the section about “Traveling with Kids on the Spectrum.”

And then it hit me. “Would traveling have been easier these past 4 years, if Jimmie hadn’t been on the spectrum?” In hindsight, I just thought that THIS is what it’s like to travel with kids. Occasional emotional meltdowns are the norm. Tantrums in the jetway…typical. Jimmie hates wearing a mask…what kid doesn’t? (apparently plenty)

I read through the list of tips. Turns out, I’ve already been doing most of them. I had just adapted. Until last week, I didn’t even realize I had been doing anything different than a parent whose child is not on the spectrum.
I promise I don’t plan on changing the tone of Lazy Lauren’s Travel Blog to All-things-Autism. I’ve always been passionate about educating kids through travel, learning through new experiences, and sharing tips on budget travel using points and miles. And that will remain the focus.
But there’s an important lesson here. If you have a big dream, or are passionate about something, you should never let the fact that it’s hard, or that people won’t understand, or that people will judge you, stand in your way. You need to be willing to look stupid while you stumble and find your way. But you will get better at it. You can adapt.

Jimmie was diagnosed with Autism today. Those word Jimmie was diagnosed with Autism today. Those words feel so heavy. I went into the 4-hour evaluation with the mindset that no matter the outcome, he’s still the exact same kid before and after this evaluation. He’s already been taking speech therapy and OT for a couple months now. I haven’t talked much about his therapies because, well honestly, I haven’t had enough answers and didn’t know what to say. Today, I got an answer.
I know this diagnosis doesn’t change (nor define) who he is. However, there’s mindset and then there’s emotion. No mom will ever be prepared to hear the words “your son has autism.”
So, today I’ll shed some huge ugly crocodile tears, drink some wine 🍷, and feel all these heavy emotions. But tomorrow, I will get up, and advocate for my son, the way I always have but even stronger. My next step...helping him turn this “diagnosis” into his super power.

3 Years old today! 💕 Dear Emily, You’ve let 3 Years old today! 💕
Dear Emily,
You’ve let the world be your teacher and I have loved every minute of seeing it through your eyes. You are always open to new experiences, you make friends wherever you go, and your love and kindness for others grows bigger each day. I cried a little today after dropping you off at school. It all just seems to be going by so fast.
Happy birthday sweet girl.
We love you so much!
